Understand the functions and advantages of rocker switches in one click
A rocker switch is that controls the on and off of a circuit in a seesaw-like manner.
Operation
1. Single-Pole Single-Throw (SPST)
Definition: A single-pole single-throw switch is one of the most basic types of switches, with one moving contact (knife) and one stationary contact (throw). According to the initial state of the contact, it can be divided into two types: normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC). The normally open type has open contacts when the switch is not closed, and the contacts are connected when it is closed; the normally closed type is the opposite.
Use: Widely used in various circuits that require simple switch control, such as power switches, lighting controls, etc.
2. Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT)
Definition: A single-pole double-throw switch has one moving contact (knife) and two stationary contacts (throw). The moving contact can be connected to any of the stationary contacts, allowing selection between two different circuit paths.
Use: Commonly used in situations where two different loads or functions need to be switched, such as input source selection of an audio system, scene switching of a lighting control system, etc.
Structure: It consists of a moving end and a fixed end. The moving end is connected to the incoming line of the power supply, and the two fixed ends are connected to two different circuit paths respectively.
3. Double-pole single-throw (DPST)
Definition: The double-pole single-throw switch (Double-Pole Single-Throw Switch) can actually be regarded as a combination of two single-pole single-throw switches, but their moving contacts (knives) are linked, that is, they are connected or disconnected at the same time. Each moving contact corresponds to a static contact.
Use: It is mainly used to control two independent circuit paths at the same time to ensure that their states (on or off) remain consistent. This switch is very useful in situations where multiple circuits need to be controlled synchronously, such as controlling the switches of two light bulbs at the same time.
4. Double-pole double-throw (DPDT)
Definition: The double-pole double-throw switch (Double-Pole Double-Throw Switch) is a combination of two single-pole double-throw switches, and each moving contact can be independently connected to any of the two static contacts. Therefore, it has a total of four static contacts and two moving contacts.
Use: Double-pole double-throw switches are very useful in situations where more complex circuit switching and control are required, such as stereo balance control of audio equipment, forward and reverse control of motors, etc.
Structure: It has six terminals, two sets of common terminals and two switchable contact terminals. By changing the position of the moving contact, switching between the two sets of circuit paths can be achieved.
Advantage
